When I have acted as an independent appraiser on my many insurance appraisal disputes I've found that finding a real disinterested, ethical, and more importantly a "competent," appraisal umpire became more and more difficult each time. Trying to find someone who knows about the insurance claims process, the insurance appraisal process, fire and water damage, cause and affects from such damages, the building process, coverage's, normal and customary application of insurance and repairs... it's nearly impossible.
Someone had advised me that with all my experience in these areas I would make a great appraisal umpire. [Read My Brief Bio Here] After having two appraisals where my umpire knowledge was requested I was hooked. If you find it frustrating that an umpire is not familiar with what your job is as the appraiser, how the appraisal process works, how to replace buildings, building materials, contents, and knows about realistic depreciation values... then look no further. I've been there and understand what is needed to assist independent appraisers on reaching a realistic "amount of loss," for the damages incurred.
